Davendots Dutch Rabbits

Breeders & Exhibitors of Black,Blueand Chocolate Dutch of good type & colour.

To show off those markings and to do justice to its type a Dutch must be round and cobby and firm in flesh. To accomplish this you must adopt a good feeding regime.

Feeding

The food you give your stock is very important as they need a balanced diet. The dried food can be a mix or a pellet. Hay is also a must as it gives them the roughage they need to aid digestion besides helping to keep their teeth in good order, barley straw is also enjoyed.

A supply of fresh water should always be available, if a rabbit does not drink it will not eat, always make sure the water bottle is working correctly as sometimes the ball in the end of the drinking tube can stick and therefore no water will be available for your rabbit.

To enable your rabbit to extract as much protein, vitamins and minerals from their food as possible, they digest their food twice. They do this by eating their own caecal pellets. These are soft, kidney shaped droppings which are covered in a small amount of mucous. These droppings are very different from the dry round droppings that you will usually see your rabbit passing.

The Dutch rabbit is a very easy rabbit to handle and look after, the doe makes an excellent mother and you can foster kits from one litter to another whatever colour they may be and she will look after them as she would her own. As long as the doe has plenty of food and water to keep her milk flowing she will be fine.
